Sweet Buttermilk Cornbread - 10"

See smaller recipe for 1/2 batch.

If using Buttermilk powder, combine 4 T buttermilk powder in 1 cup of water.

Ingredients

  • 1.25 cups (7.3 oz) stone ground cornmeal (any color)

  • 1 cup (5 oz) all purpose flour

  • 1 T baking powder

  • 1/4 t baking soda

  • 1/4 t salt

  • 1/2 cup (4.1 oz) sugar

  •  

  • 1.25 cups buttermilk

  • 1 egg, slightly beaten

  • 1/4 cup corn oil or butter

  •  

  • 1/4 cup butter

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F

  • Combine dry ingredients into large bowl

  • Combine wet ingredients into smaller bowl or measuring cup

  • Mix wet into dry until flour is moistened (batter will be lumpy)

  • Melt butter in 10” cast iron skillet

  • Pour in batter

  • Cook for 20-25 minutes or until GBD and toothpick comes out clean.
